About Emily

Hello, I'm Emily.

I am a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, trauma-informed yoga instructor, and community educator.

I collaborate with clients to resolve symptoms of trauma and stress, become more embodied and self-regulated, and develop new ways of maintaining presence and peace.

I have a deep love for somatic practices, like yoga and Somatic Experiencing® (SE), because they:

  • create a bridge between modern neuroscience and ancient wisdom;

  • view the mind-body-spirit as intrinsically whole, interconnected, and interactive;

  • emphasize an empowerment-based approach; and

  • allow for the non-linear nature of healing to unfold.

I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space to allow for exploration, connection, and creativity on the path to healing. I facilitate sessions through a trauma-informed lens, offering clients total choice and control over their own experience.

I would describe my therapeutic and teaching style as playful, sensitive, and real. My one-on-one sessions with clients offer a dynamic blend of my various trainings, exploring a tailored holistic experience with each individual.

My background and training

I am a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) with Somatic Experiencing International (SEI). I serve on the SEI Teaching Assistant team and have assisted SE trainings in Berkeley and Sacramento, CA and Anchorage, AK. I completed the Full Embodiment: Healing Sexuality Trauma training with Ariel Giarretto. I am currently training in Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience (DARe) with Dr. Diane Poole Heller, a toolkit for healing early attachment wounds and forming healthy adult relationships. I have completed Dr. Kathy Kain and Steve Terrell's Resilience and Regulation: Early Trauma professional training in touch and childhood trauma recovery. More recently, I began studying Internal Family Systems with Fran Booth.  I have a certificate in Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy from SUNY Albany School of Social Welfare. My yoga experience includes thousands of hours of teaching and training.

I design and facilitate trainings in Embodiment, Regulation, and Resiliency for first responders, mental health professionals, clinicians, and yoga teachers. I have led these trainings across California and Nevada and online. In 2013, I co-founded Firefly Yoga International, a non-profit that pioneered trauma-informed yoga programs and yoga teacher trainings across the United States.

Before all this, I received my Master's in Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health. My work involved public health programming in humanitarian disasters in the USA and internationally. I also enjoyed several years in West Virginia, directing programs at a wilderness adventure and survival skills camp for homeless children.

For the first 18 years of my life, my family lived off-grid and off the land. With these roots, I have always nurtured a deep connection to the wild. The rugged mountains of Lake Tahoe were my home for the past ten years. In 2023, I relocated to central New York to be closer to my family and explore the Finger Lakes region.

I am excited and honored to share in this embodiment journey with you.
